Gardening Australia Live – Qld
Gardening Australia Live is a show touring Australia in 2003,
based on the ever popular television program of the same name.
Staff from acsGarden.com were able to attend the show in Queensland.
Australians are as determined as ever to create the perfect backyard – which usually includes lawns, garden beds, perhaps a water feature, and of course, the faithful Aussie barbecue. With the Australian love of gardening, it is little wonder that the latest touring gardening show has received so much attention.
Gardening Australia Live QLD not only included trade products in the trade stands, but also stunning miniature gardens created by nurseries, industry bodies, educational institutions and other gardening organisations. Thus, the public were able to look at gardens on display, and collect information about products used in those gardens.
Many gardening shows are held in Botanic Gardens and other places where plants are permanently on display: in such cases, the public can be impressed by permanent gardens. So, for a traveling show to incorporate actual gardens is quite impressive. Gardening Australia Live is a show with a difference!
The presenters of Gardening Australia were speaking on various gardening issues throughout the three day extravaganza, so fans were able to see their favourite presenters live.
Show goers with an environmental interest were able to pick up the latest tips on organic gardening, permaculture and no dig gardening. This included live demonstrations of the basic techniques involved. In fact, for truly green gardeners, there appeared to be a really good range of products to make your garden friendlier to the environment, and to the local flora and fauna. This highlights a major trend in Australian gardening.
The large plant pavilion included stunning displays from some of the state’s largest nurseries, and show goers were able to purchase plants here. When we attended, there was standing room only in the plant pavilion. The floral art displays were also well attended, and anyone with an interest in flower arranging was able to source products and be inspired by both modern and traditional style displays.
There were plenty of books and gardening magazine stands, with some magazines attending and offering back issues to people wanting to complete their collection.
If you’re taking the kids, then be prepared to spend some time watching the Bananas in Pyjamas, The Hoobs and other popular ABC characters at the kid’s stage (a great chance for Mum and Dad to sit down for a while).
Gardening Australia Live NSW was held from the 14th-17th of August 2003 at the Sydney Showground, Homebush Bay.

Whilst the show definitely has a trade focus, with garden products being at the fore, there are also gardens, plants and a fantastic array of cut flowers to give home gardeners inspiration for their own backyards.
