Oregon Grape, Holly Mahonia

This evergreen shrub grows to a height of 1.2 metres with a spread of 1 metre. Not surprisingly, the leaves of holly Mahonia resemble holly, with their characteristic lobe spikes and glossy green surface. The bright yellow flowers appear as terminal racemes in the Spring. These are followed by blue berries.

Uses

Ornamental shrub suitable for garden beds.

Culture

Mahonia prefers rich, well drained soil, in an open, sunny position. It is frost resistant but dought tender. It can be propagated from seed.
