Cherry Laurel, Common Laurel

Evergreen shrub or tree to 15m high, usually kept much lower in cultivation. Dense foliage becomes spreading when not pruned. Leaves are laurel-like, shiny and bright green to 15cm long. Flowers are small, white, scented racemes occurring in early summer. Cherry-like red berries turn to black in autumn.

Uses

Excellent hedging plant adaptable to a wide range of conditions.

Culture

Suitable for full sun and shade, Cherry Laurel is adaptable to most soils and both cool and temperate climates. Tolerates frost and alkaline soils. Suitable for hedging, but should be pruned with secateurs, not shears. Propagate by seed or cuttings.
