Evergreen shrub to 5m high by 3m wide (some smaller). Features arching branches and thorns. Ovate, glossy and dark green leaves to 7.5cm long. The small white flowers occur in spring and produce ornamental orange yellow or red berries in autumn.
Uses
Ornamental shrub suitable for larger garden beds. Can also be grown as a hedge or as an espalier subject.
Commonly grown for masses of colourful berries.
Culture
Grow in full sun or part shade in a cool or temperate climate. The ornamental berries will produce better colour in cold regions. Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Tolerates frost, wind and air pollution. Can be pruned into a hedge or espaliered. Propagate by seed or by cuttings in autumn or winter.
