Cyclamen persicum

Florist's Cyclamen

Herbaceous perennial growing up to 30cm high from a tuber. Leaves are heart-shaped and dark green, typically with silver or light green markings. The white, purple, red or pink flowers have five reflexed petals and occur on upright succulent stems throughout winter.

Ornamental flower suitable for rockeries and garden beds. Very popular as a pot plant, with some varieties bred to be grown indoors.

Suitable for full sun or part-shade in temperate climates. Prefers well-drained soil with a high organic content. Will flower longer if kept cool at night. Do not water when dormant during summer. If left undisturbed, tubers should produce more flowers each year. Propagate by seed in autumn. Susceptible to black root rot.
