English wallflower

Herbaceous plant up to 60cm high by 40cm wide, usually grown as an annual or biennial. Multiple stems arising from the base support lanceolate leaves and fragrant, four-petalled flowers that occur in spring. Flower colours are highly variable, ranging from pink, yellow, red, orange and brown.

Uses

Ornamental flowering sub-shrub suitable for cottage gardens and as a bedding plant.

Culture

Suitable for full sun and a temperate climate. Prefers well-drained soil. Frost resistant. Propagate by seed in spring or cuttings in summer.
