Winter Iris

Rhizomatous, evergreen perennial with deep-green, strap-like leaves approx 20cm high. In winter, the scented, 5-8cm wide flowers are held on stalks below the leaves and are typically pale blue. White and dark blue varieties also available.

Uses

Ornamental flower suitable for cottage gardens and garden beds. Also grown as a cut flower.

Culture

Prefers full sun and a sheltered position in a temperate climate. Grows best in fertile, moist and slightly alkaline soil. Frost resistant. Avoid humid conditions. Cut back leaves prior to flowering. Propagate by division after flowering. Susceptible to attack by slugs.
