Stinking Iris/Roast beef plant
Rhizomatous, evergreen perennial growing to approx 75cm high. Has deep-green foliage and flowers in late spring. The yellow or purple flowers are beardless, 5-10cm wide and occur on branched spikes. Produces large green pods that reveal round red fruits in autumn.
Uses
Hardy plant suitable for difficult positions such as under shade trees or waterlogged sites.
Culture
Prefers semi-shade and a cool or temperate climate. Grows best in fertile and moist soil, but will also grow in dry and waterlogged sites. Frost tolerant. Propagate by seed in autumn or by division after flowering.
