Wild Daffodil

Herbaceous perennial approx 20cm high, arising from a bulb. The basal leaves are linear. In spring tubular stems support overlapping, pale yellow petals that surround a large yellow corona in the shape of a trumpet bell.

Uses

Ornamental flowering bulb suitable for cottage gardens, under deciduous trees and as drifts in lawns.

Culture

Grow in full sun or semi-shade in a cool or temperate climate. Prefers well-drained soil. Frost tolerant. Dead-head and fertilise after flowering. Propagate by division after flowering or by seed.

Separation of bulbs.

Cultivars

Bred extensively to produce a very large range of named cultivars.

Plant Health

Relatively few.

Root rot if too wet, particularly when dormant.
