African Marigold

Fast-growing, upright, bushy annual plant growing between 0.3-1m high by 20-60cm wide, depending upon the variety. The leaves are aromatic, deeply divided, glossy and dark green. The daisy-like double flowers are yellow-gold during summer and autumn.

Uses

Flowering annual suitable for cottage gardens, pots and as a bedding plant. Used as a culinary and medicinal herb. Also grown as a companion plant to deter nematodes in vegetable gardens.

Culture

Grow in full sun in temperate or warm climates. Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Frost sensitive, so raise seedling under glass until the risk of frost has passed. Deadhead regularly. Propagate by seed. Susceptible to slugs, snails and botrytis.
