Cornus alba is native to China and Siberia. This deciduous shrub grows to a height of 3 metres, with a spread of around 2 metres. Its shoots become red in winter. Tree bears insignificant, cream coloured flowers and white berries.

Uses

Ornamental shrub suitable for shaded sites.

Culture

This reasonably hardy plant adapts to a range of different soil conditions provided it is in a protected, semi-shaded position. It is frost resistant but drought tender. It can be propagated by seed, cuttings or division. Cornus alba benefits from annual pruning.
